Integration of supply chain elements in an automobile company: Discrete Event Simulation Model and Analysis

Summary

In collaboration with a global car company, the project will provide professional analysis of the Supply Chain Management system and suggest the required dynamic model to support strategic decision-making in providing effective and efficient operations of supply chains, in the right time with the optimal amount of resources. This is observed with the increasing trend of integration partnerships among supply chain elements.
Additional supervisors involved in this project include Dr Shelton Peiris and Dr Boris Choy, University of Sydney, and Dr Prem Samaranayake and Dr Kenan Matawie, Western Sydney University.

Synopsis

The project will initially deliver a Continuum Model, that need to be verified by a field expertise from the nominated global car company, then the model development will proceed with “educated” dummy data hoping the real data to be provided by the nominated global car company. The proposed model will cover all elements within the SCM, easy to use through a dashboard, Excel input sheets, a “caned” Excel analysis and implementation of “what if” scenario to achieve efficient use of available resources and processes by integrating multiple elements of the SCM.
The project will include the model execution, model validation (based on field expertise requirement of the accuracy level) and rapping up the project by providing both user manual and developer manual of the model.
The final stage of the project will include the training of model execution which will be provided bythe postgraduate student (under our supervision) to the modelling staff at the nominated global car company for a period of no more than 3 months. Any major changes to the model will require establishment of a new project.

Additional information

The candidate will work out of the School of Mathematics and Statistics (Carslaw Building F07) and the Abercrombie Business School Building, University of Sydney. Additional locations will include the Parramatta Campus, School of Computing Engineering and Mathematics and School of Business, Western Sydney University.
