Genocide and Mass Atrocity Prevention

Summary

Eyal is a Senior Lecturer in Peace and Conflict Studies, Discipline of Sociology and Criminology, University of Sydney. His background includes genocide studies, counter-terrorism (Captain, Retd), Middle East affairs and computer programming. He commentates in the media on responses to mass atrocity crimes and on the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Eyal is a recipient of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Teaching Excellence Award (2019), and of six consecutive Dean’s Commendations for Excellence in Teaching (2018-2021). His first book Reluctant Interveners: America’s Failed Responses to Genocide from Bosnia to Darfur (Rutgers University Press) was selected by Choice magazine as an Outstanding Academic Title for 2020. The book explores interactions between policymakers, the media and public opinion in the United States in response to genocide.

Eyal is a member of the Genocide Prevention Advisory Network, an international network of experts who advise governments on the causes, consequences, and prevention of genocide and other mass atrocities.
