Inherited diseases in animals

Summary

I am conducting research relating to the the molecular characterisation of inherited diseases in livestock (mainly sheep, cattle and goats) and am a co-curator of Online Mendelian Inheritance in Animals (OMIA), a globally used database about inherited traits and diseases in vertebrate animals.

Research interests: Investigation of inherited diseases in livestock and curation of Online Mendelian Inheritance in Animals (OMIA).

Supervisor

Associate Professor Imke Tammen.

Synopsis

Inherited diseases in animals impact animal health and welfare and my research aims to reduce the risk of animals to be born with inherited disease by developing DNA diagnostics for livestock and by providing easy access to inforamtion about inherited diseases in all vertebrate species.
My research relating to the molecular characterisation of inherited diseases in livestock (mainly sheep, cattle and goats) focuses on the identification of likely causal variants to allow accurate diagnosis and improved management of these conditions.
As a co-curator of Online Mendelian Inheritance in Animals (OMIA) database, I am interested in improving the database for curators and users.
Specific projects can be developed with interested students and depend on availability of funding.
