This Scholarship is intended to recognise talented students from rural or regional areas and support them to achieve their full potential at the University of Sydney Business School.
1. Background
a. Established by an initial donation in 2000 from the USA Foundation this scholarship is named after the alumnus and prominent international businessman David W Johnson.
b. This Scholarship is intended to recognise talented students from rural or regional areas and support them to achieve their full potential at the University of Sydney Business School.
2. Eligibility
a. The applicant must meet the Early Offer Year 12 (E12) Pathways Scheme eligibility criteria regarding attending a rural or regional school.
b. The applicant must receive an unconditional E12 admission offer for Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Commerce and Advanced Studies.
c. The applicant must enrol in the degree for which an unconditional E12 offer was received.
d. The applicant must have completed the NSW High School Certificate (HSC) or equivalent in the year prior to commencement of the undergraduate degree.
3. Selection Criteria
a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit.
b. The Scholarship will be awarded by the Dean of the University of Sydney Business School, or their nominated delegates.
4. Value
a. The Scholarship is valued at $10,000 per annum and is tenable for up to three years, plus an additional year for honours or completion of the Bachelor of Advanced Studies (where applicable).
b. The Scholarship annual value will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester.
c. Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted.
d. Transfer of the Scholarship to another degree program is not permitted without the permission of the Dean responsible for the initial program and does not involve lengthening the tenure of this Scholarship.
e. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.
f. No other amount is payable.
5. Ongoing eligibility
a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must enrol in 24 credit points each semester and maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 50. Undertaking a minimum full-time load will not extend the duration of the scholarship.
b. The applicant must remain enrolled in an eligible undergraduate Business degree as their E12 course admission offer via the Early Offer Year 12 Scheme.
c. Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required to have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.
6. Termination
a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:
I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,
II. enrols in fewer than 22 credit points in a semester without prior approval by the Business School,
III. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,
IV. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,
V. accepts an alternative multi-year scholarship, administered by the University of Sydney, valued at $6,000 per annum or more,
VI. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave, or
VII. any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination.
b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.
c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
7. Other Requirements
a. Scholarship recipients may be invited to promote the program in which they are enrolled, represent the University of Sydney at student welcome, marketing events and corporate networking events and fulfil the on-campus functions of a Business School Student Ambassador.
