This scholarship is valued at $10,000 and is tenable for one year.
Established in 2021, the Engineering Postgraduate Merit Scholarship School of Electrical and Information Engineering has been generously funded by the Faculty of Engineering to encourage and assist students commencing a postgraduate coursework degree in the School of Electrical and Information Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering.
a. Established in 2021, this Scholarship has been generously funded by the Faculty of Engineering to encourage and assist students commencing a postgraduate coursework degree in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney.
a. Applicants must have an unconditional offer of admission for a Master by Coursework degree within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney at the time of application.
b. Applicants must have achieved a WAM of 75 and above or equivalent in their previous tertiary studies. International applicants must have completed their tertiary studies from a top-500 university according to the latest QS World University Rankings at the time of application.
c. Students who have already commenced postgraduate coursework studies in the Faculty of Engineering or have transferred from another postgraduate coursework program are not eligible.
d. An allocated number of scholarships will be offered to applicants in each school across the Faculty of Engineering. This allocation will be driven by the strategic priorities of the Faculty and is subject to change.
e. The Scholarship will be named the Engineering Postgraduate Merit Scholarship – followed by the name of the awarding School.
f. All applicants must be commencing their degree in the semester immediately following award of this scholarship.
3. Selection Criteria
a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit based on the candidate’s performance in their previous undergraduate and/or postgraduate studies.
b. The Scholarship will be awarded by a selection committee consisting of the Associate Dean Education and Heads of School or their appointed nominee.
Preference will be given to applicants who have not been offered other similar or higher value University of Sydney scholarships.
a. The Scholarship is valued at $10,000 and is tenable for one year only.
b. The Scholarship will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester.
c. Part-time enrolment is not permitted without the prior approval of the Associate Dean Education. In the event that part-time enrolment is approved, the scholarship will be paid on a pro-rata basis and the duration will be adjusted accordingly. Pro-rata payments will be calculated on the number of credit points taken each semester with 24 credit points being considered a full-time semester load for the purposes of this scholarship. Payments will not exceed the maximum value of the scholarship.
d. Deferral of the Scholarship or transfer to another School within the Faculty of Engineering is not permitted and it is not transferable to another faculty or university.
e. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.
f. No other amount is payable. International students will be required to pay for all relocation expenses to Sydney including airfares, overseas health cover as well as purchase of study material and textbooks.
5. Ongoing eligibility
a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 75 each semester.
b. Recipients must enrol and continue to be enrolled full-time in the same degree within the Faculty of Engineering.
c. Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required to have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.
a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:
I. withdraws from an eligible course or stream or fails to enrol,
II. enrols in part-time study without prior approval from the Associate Dean Education or their appointed nominee.
III. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,
IV. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their University application,
V. accepts an alternative primary scholarship administered by the University of Sydney and/or the Faculty of Engineering valued at $8,000 per annum or more for the same purpose as this scholarship. The exception to this is where the recipient is awarded a placement scholarship, in which case this scholarship will be suspended for the duration of the placement. It will be reinstated at the completion of the placement if there is any scholarship candidature remaining. The value of this scholarship for the period of the placement will be forfeited,
VI. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave, or
VII. any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination.
b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated unless due to University error.
c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
