This scholarship is valued at $5000 per year for up to two years for master's recipients, and up to 3.5 years for PhD recipients.

Who's eligible

You must:

  • hold a Bachelor of Arts from the University, with first class honours in English or Australian literature
  • plan to start a postgraduate research degree in the Department of English.

This scholarship was established in 1992 with funds from the Ivan Colban Roberts bequest.

The Reverend and Mrs F.W.A. Roberts Scholarship supports students undertaking post a higher degree in research through the Department of English at the University of Sydney.

Scholarship value and duration

The scholarship value is $5,000 per year tenable for up to two years for masters’ candidates or up to 3.5 years for doctorate candidates in line with their APA/UPA. 

Eligibility criteria
  • Open to graduates holding the degree of Bachelor of Arts from the University with first class honours in English or Australian Literature who enrol in a course of advanced study leading to a higher degree in research through the Department of English at the University of Sydney.

Background

Established in 1992 with funds from the Ivan Colban Roberts bequest. 

Selection criteria
  • The scholarship may be awarded as a supplementary award to the highest ranked eligible candidate who is awarded an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) or University of Sydney Postgraduate Award (UPA) in the University's annual APA/UPA round.
  • It may also be awarded to current scholarship holders on the basis of annual review reports and interviews, publications on the recommendation of the Postgraduate Coordinator and Chair of the Department.
