Who's eligible

You must:

  • be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree offered by the Faculty of Science
  • have completed a minimum 48 credit points of study in your degree, excluding any credit for prior study
  • have achieved a minimum Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 65
  • have been a recipient of the Early Offer Year 12 (E12) Scheme and/ or entered via the Gadigal program in your commencing year

Background

Established in 2018, this Scholarship is awarded to continuing students enrolled full-time in undergraduate coursework degrees offered by the Faculty of Science and who demonstrate ongoing financial hardship. 

1. Background

a. Established in 2018, this Scholarship is awarded to continuing students enrolled full-time in undergraduate coursework degrees offered by the Faculty of Science and who demonstrate ongoing financial hardship.

2. Eligibility

a. Applicants must be Australian Citizens or Australian Permanent Residents who are enrolled fulltime in an undergraduate degree offered by the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney.

b. Applicants must have completed at a minimum 48 credit points of study in their degree, excluding credit for prior study, and have achieved a minimum Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 65.

c. Applicants must have been a recipient of the Early Offer Year 12 (E12) Scheme and/or entered via the Gadigal program in their commencing year.

3. Selection Criteria

a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:

I. academic merit,

II. recipient of E12 and/or entered via Gadigal program in their commencing year.

b. The Scholarship will be awarded on the nomination of the Dean of the Faculty of Science, or their nominated delegate.

4. Value

a. The Scholarship is valued at $5,000 and is tenable for one year only.

b. The Scholarship value will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester.

c. Recipients must seek prior approval to hold the Scholarship part-time. Approval by the Dean of the Faculty of Science, or their nominated delegate, will only be granted under exceptional circumstances, such as a demonstrated medical condition, which limit the recipient’s capacity to study full-time. Where a recipient is approved to study part-time, payment will be made at 50% of the full-time semester value of the Scholarship.

d. Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted without the prior permission of Dean of the Faculty of Science, or their nominated delegate, and it is not transferable to another, faculty, University school or university.

e. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

f. No other amount is payable.

5. Ongoing Eligibility

a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must maintain full-time enrolment and a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 65 each semester.

b. Recipients undertaking an exchange during the tenure of this Scholarship are required to have achieved a Satisfied Requirements grade (SR) to receive their next payment.

6. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,

II. commences part-time study without prior approval,

III. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,

IV. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,

V. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave, or

VI. any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination.

b. Once a Scholarship has been terminated, it cannot be reinstated unless due to University error.

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the Scholarship is terminated under any instance in the Termination Clause of these terms and conditions, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
