The annual value of the scholarship is the cost of the student's Coursework fee liability at the applicable rate (ABMgt Rate 2). The scholarship will be paid at the beginning of each semester and credited directly towards the recipient's fee liability. The total value of the scholarship shall not exceed $10,000.

  • be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • have an unconditional offer to study the animal breeding management program
  • not be in receipt of another scholarship or support for tuition fees of equal or higher value.

Background

Established in 2007 by a donation to the Faculty of Veterinary Science by Meat & Livestock Australia and the Australian Wool Innovation. The purpose of the donation is to encourage suitably qualified scientists to pursue postgraduate education in animal breeding management with a view to contributing their expertise to Australian livestock industries.

The purpose of the donation is to encourage suitably qualified scientists to pursue postgraduate education in animal breeding management with a view to contributing their expertise to Australian livestock industries. This will be achieved through the establishment of a scholarship to cover course fees for selected students enrolled in the Animal Breeding Management (ABMgt) program.

1. The name of the scholarship shall be the MLA and AWI Scholarship in Animal Breeding Management.

2. The annual value of the scholarship is the cost of the student's Coursework fee liability at the applicable rate (ABMgt Rate 2). The scholarship will be paid at the beginning of each semester and credited directly towards the recipient's fee liability. The total value of the scholarship shall not exceed $10,000.

3. The scholarship shall be awarded to an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

4. The scholarship shall be awarded on the basis of academic merit, based on transcripts of previous tertiary study; a written application that describes the applicant's employment history and industry experience, leadership potential and motivation and potential for future contribution to industry.

5. Scholarships are awarded to reflect industry relevance and need.

6. The postgraduate scholarship may only be awarded to an applicant who is admitted to the ABMgt Program and who enrols accordingly.

7. The postgraduate scholarship may only be awarded to an applicant who is not in receipt of another scholarship or support for tuition fees of equal or higher value.

8. The scholarship shall be awarded by the Faculty of Veterinary Science Board of Postgraduate Studies on the recommendation of a committee consisting of the Sub-Dean for Postgraduate Education & Research Training, one representative of each donor, one representative of the University of New England and the program Academic Supervisor.
