## Who's eligible

You must:

• be a medallist in an International Science Olympiad in one or more of the following areas: biology, chemistry, earth science, geography, informatics, mathematics, physics
• have achieved an ATAR of 95.00 or higher in the year of application for this scholarship
• be commencing an undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Science, or a double or combined undergraduate degree in which one component of the degree is within the Faculty of Science.

Established in 2004, this Scholarship recognises the exceptional talent of applicants who have represented Australia and been awarded a medal at an International Science Olympiad. The Scholarship encourages recipients to continue to pursue their passion for science in an undergraduate degree within the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney.

#### Terms and conditions

##### 1. Background

a. Established in 2004, this Scholarship recognises the exceptional talent of applicants who have represented Australia and medalled at an International Science Olympiad.

b. The Scholarship encourages recipients to continue to pursue their passion for science in an undergraduate degree within the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney.

##### 2. Eligibility

a. To be eligible for the Scholarship, applicants must be an Australian Citizen or Australian Permanent Resident.

b. Applicants must be a medallist in an International Science Olympiad in one or more of the following areas:

i. Biology,

ii. Chemistry,

iii. Earth Science,

iv. Geography,

v. Informatics,

vi. Mathematics, or

vii. Physics.

c. Applicants must have achieved an ATAR of 95.00 or above in the year of application for this Scholarship and commencing a:

i. Bachelor degree within the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney,

ii. Bachelor combined degree in which one component of the degree is within the

iii. Bachelor double degree in which one component of the degree is within the Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney.

d. Applicants must not have previously undertaken tertiary study.

##### 3. Selection Criteria

a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit.

b. The Scholarship will be awarded on the recommendation of the Dean of the Faculty of Science, or their nominated delegate.

##### 4. Value

a. The Scholarship is valued at \$5,000 per annum and is tenable for one year only.

b. The Scholarship annual value will be paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester.

c. Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted without the prior permission of the Dean of the Faculty of Science, or their nominated delegate, and it is not transferable to another school, faculty or university.

d. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.

e. No other amount is payable.

##### 5. Ongoing eligibility

a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 65 each semester.

b. Applicants must complete, during their first year of enrolment, at least 12 credit points of units of study in the subject area associated with their International Science Olympiad medal(s).

c. The recipient must maintain full-time enrolment during the tenure of the Scholarship.

##### 6. Termination

a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:

I. fails to enrol in or satisfactorily complete, in their first year of enrolment, at least 12 credit points of units of study in the subject area associated with their International Science Olympiad medal(s),

II. withdraws from an eligible course, transfers to another course, or fails to enrol, without the prior approval from the Dean of the Faculty of Science, or their nominated delegate,

III. commences part-time study without prior approval from the Dean of the Faculty of Science, or their nominated delegate,

IV. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,

V. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,

VI. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave, or

VII. any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination.

b. Once terminated, the Scholarship will not be reinstated.

c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or withdraws from the relevant course, the University reserves the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
