Infinite pathways

Maths Careers Day for Year 9 and 10
Real mathematicians, real applications and real career pathways to answer the age-old question from maths students everywhere, “When will I use any of this?”

Inspire your students to consider mathematics as a part of their future study and career pathways.

Students will get to hear from top, current mathematicians working in the School of Mathematics and Statistics about how they got to where they are today and their hottest research work. We will also outline what it is like studying mathematics as a University student and let your students consider how studying mathematics might add value to their future career.

Finally, we end the day on differentiated mathematics puzzles and hands-on activities that we will do live with your classes. Throughout the day, your students will have opportunities to send us their questions live.

You can download the schedule of the Infinite Pathways 2021 program (PDF, 106KB).

Each participating school will be provided with student activity worksheets and profiles of our mathematics speakers, plus a digital “goodie bag” with videos and links to the University of Sydney’s STEM studying and career pathways. The day will be presented over Zoom where your school will join as whole classes. Teachers must be present for the entire program for supervision and child safety purposes.
