false

UAC applicants

If you've applied through UAC, accept your offer from the University of Sydney, first. When you've done that, follow the steps to apply as a current student – you’ll be able to apply for credit for study completed at another institution.

Direct applicants

Follow these steps if you're in the process of applying directly to the University.

Step 1: Start your application

While completing your course application we’ll ask if you want to apply for recognition of prior learning. You have two options.

Option 1

If you tick yes, you’ll receive an email with next steps. You will need to log in to Sydney Student, go to Applications > My application > Submit or cancel your application for credit.

Option 2

If you don't elect to apply for credit during your application, you can still apply as a current student once you've accepted your offer and enrolment has opened for your course.

Step 2: Select majors, programs or specialisations

Select your intended majors, programs and specialisations.

  • You may have more than one.
  • If your course doesn’t have these, leave the drop-down field as ‘No Selection’.
  • If yours aren’t listed, add them as additional information later in your application.

Step 3: Add credit items

In the ‘Add credit or RVL item’ section, add an individual credit item for every unit of study you would like to apply for. You need to do this one at a time.

  1. For Type, select 'Credit'.
  2. For Credit learning type, select depending on the institution where you completed your previous studies. This could either be:
    • higher education, or
    • VET (vocational education and training).
  3. Enter the name of the institution where you completed your studies.
    • If you can't find it in the list, try a different name. For example, you'll find UTS as 'University of Technology, Sydney'.
    • If you are unable to add your institution, select 'unknown'.
  4. Complete the remaining fields then click Add item to add it to your application.

To add another item, repeat the steps.

Step 4: Upload course/unit of study outlines

You'll need to attach course/unit of study outlines for each credit item you add.

  1. In Sydney Student, in the ‘Supporting documents’ section, select the type of document you want to attach from the drop-down list (for example, 'Transcript').
  2. Select Upload, then find the document you want to attach.

Step 5: Upload transcripts

Make sure you’ve read the detailed requirements on What you’ll need to apply.

  • You'll need to attach a certified copy of your official academic transcript from each of the institutions you completed study at.
  • Include your name and Student ID in the file name.

To upload your supporting documents:

  1. In Sydney Student, in the 'Supporting documents' section, select 'Transcript' as the document type from the drop-down list.
  2. Select Upload, then find your transcript.

Step 6: Review and submit application

Once you've provided all the required information and documents, select Submit to finalise your application. If you’d like to return to it later, select Save and continue your application by restarting these steps.
