Mathematics Learning Centre

The Mathematics Learning Centre provides support and guidance for eligible current and prospective students to develop their understanding, capacity and confidence in mathematics and statistics.

COVID-19 update: In-person support moves online. Our online resources remain available for everyone.

Due to the University response to Covid-19, in-person classes offered by the Mathematics Learning Centre have been migrated to online support.

Our Mathematics Learning Centre learning resources, including videos and booklets, remain available to everyone to use.

If you are worried about mathematical or statistical content needed in your units of study, then we encourage you to use the information and resources available online or to come and talk to us.

You are welcome to:

Drop-in Centre

Our Drop-in Centre can provide individual one-to-one help with a selection of mathematics, statistics and related units of study.

The units that we support are generally the first unit in a degree that contains a substantive amount of mathematical or statistical content, such as calculus, linear algebra and statistics. This includes all fundamental and normal units of first year mathematics courses offered by the School of Mathematics and Statistics as well as units such as ENVX1002, EMCT1010, EMCT1020, PHAR1812, PSYC2012 and PUBH5018. A complete list of supported units is on Canvas.

This service is free and is available if you meet eligibility requirements.

You're eligible if you're studying a unit of study we support, and meet any of the following criteria.

  • You have not studied the mathematics which is assumed knowledge for your course.
  • You are a mature age student who has not studied mathematics in several years.
  • You are from overseas and find you have gaps in your knowledge, or are not familiar with mathematical terms in English.
  • Your studies have been interrupted by either illness or accident or some other cause.

Please join us for an online Drop-in if you think you're eligible for another reason.

Due to the University response to Covid-19, the Mathematics Learning Centre's in-person classes have been migrated to online support.

To access any of our online drop-in sessions and/or our online workshop classes visit to the MLC Canvas homepage.

To access these please use the links to Zoom or ED for the appropriate sessions on the Canvas site.

All students enrolled in one of our supported units should already have access to our Canvas site. If not, you can self-enrol in Canvas.
