Amendment to migration regulations

Recently the government has issued a new regulation called the Migration Amendment (Protecting Australia’s Critical Technology) Regulation 22. This will see changes to student visa conditions, which may mean additional requirements for higher degree by research students who want to change their course or research topic. The government is consulting with higher education providers to define what the critical technologies will be, and as a University, we are providing input into that consultation to try and minimise any impacts on students in future. Please be assured that the government has indicated that the new regulations will not apply to current student visa holders, only those granted a visa from 1 July 2022. This means if you are a current student, you are bound by the existing conditions on your student visa and will not be impacted by the new regulation.
