Whatever you do, don't miss these Welcome Week stalls

Navigate Welcome Week like a pro
The University of Sydney Union's (USU) Welcome Fest is one of your first introductions to university life. Campus will be decked out with hundreds of stalls for you to browse – this guide will help you know where to start.

Pick from hundreds of clubs and societies

From chocolate and roller derby, to ethno-cultural or religious groups – whatever your interest, there’s something for everyone amongst the hundreds of clubs and societies stalls. Clubs and societies are one of the best ways to make new friends, plus some memberships come with merch, so signing up is a win-win!

Bonus tip: most clubs and societies have small membership fees, so make sure you bring cash.

Stock up on freebies

Most students will tell you that the best part about Welcome Week is the freebies. Plenty of clubs and societies hold BBQs and cake stalls, and there are always people roaming around Eastern Avenue with giveaways. Free merch, free food and free drinks – we can’t think of a better way to start your life on a uni student budget.

Bonus tip: be sure to swing by the USU tent and get your free membership. A USU membership is your passport to join clubs, attend events, find a job, vote in student elections and more. There's also the option to join Access Rewards giving members a 10% discount on food and retail outlets all over campus.

Learn about sustainability on campus

Find out about how we're keeping campus green in 2022. Sign up for a trail tour around campus, get involved in a CampusFlora treasure hunt, or bring your bike in to the free Bike Doctor to get it looked at while you get all the info you'll need on biking to uni safely.

Stay fit (on a student budget)

Touch, rock climbing, waterpolo, frisbee – there’ll be a sport for you, whatever your interest and fitness level. Most of the sports teams here at the University have sign-up stalls during Welcome Week, and the Sydney Uni Sport and Fitness (SUSF) stall can answer any of your questions about staying fit at uni.

Get help from our friendly team

Keep an eye out for staff and students in University t-shirts – the University's Student Life team will be on the ground at Welcome Week to answer all your questions about life at Sydney, starting University, and where to find support. There will be booths and stalls from all areas of student life, workshops, talks, student-led events and much more. Find out more about student support services.

Read up on the Library

The Library's colossal Welcome Week program will run over three weeks and include a Jumbo Marquee tent with a Pop up TechSpace, 12 events with over 85 sessions, a Lounge, and tons of giveaways. Visit the Library Welcome Week page to find out more and register.

Meet your student reps

The SRC (Student Representative Council) and SUPRA (Sydney University Postgraduate Representative Association) stalls have plenty of tips to help you settle in to student life, and information about your rights and interests as a student. You can also find out about the weekly student newsletters published on campus, the SRC Disabilities Collective, and where to find second-hand textbooks to save yourself some cash.

Do your bit to help end Modern Slavery

The University's Anti-Slavery team are collaborating with Anti-Slavery Australia to host a Human Mart Exhibition and store front on campus. If you want to help play your part in ending Modern Slavery and spreading awareness, don't miss this important stall.
