Indonesian flags against the sky

The state of Indonesia

A pre-election expert panel

Explore the key issues at stake for Indonesia in the lead-up to the 2019 election.

When: Tuesday 9 April 2019

Indonesia: it’s the most populous country in Southeast Asia and on 17 April it's heading to the polls. This historic election is the first time that the presidential and general election have been held on the same day in Indonesia.

Join our expert panel the week before the election to learn more about the key issues at stake for Indonesia and our region. How has food sovereignty and resource nationalism played out during the campaign? Where do cultural activism and sexual politics fit in? And what considerations have candidates given to disability and social inclusion?

Chaired by Professor of Indonesian Law, Simon Butt and featuring distinguished panellists from across each of SSEAC’s five research clusters, this event is the ideal primer for anyone with an interest in the future of Indonesia.

The panel session was followed by an extended Q&A session with the audience.

This panel was co-hosted by SSEAC, the Sydney Centre for Asian and Pacific Law, the Department of Indonesian Studies and AIYA NSW.
