2025 SSEAC grant scheme winners announced

Fostering impactful research and knowledge partnerships in Southeast Asia
SSEAC awards new Ignition and Incubator grants to established and emerging researchers to grow their collaborative research in Southeast Asia and tackle complex regional challenges.

The Sydney Southeast Asia Centre is pleased to announce the winners of the 2025 SSEAC Ignition and Incubator Grant schemes.

These schemes equip researchers to grow their collaborative research in Southeast Asia, strengthen research partnerships with the region and generate significant research outcomes.

Six Ignition and Incubator grants have been awarded under SSEAC's inaugural Grand Challenges Program aimed at supporting multidisciplinary research teams tackling some of the critical issues facing Southeast Asia.

  • Dr Penny Humaidah Hamid (Universitas Sebelas Maret)
  • Professor Rory Bowden and Dr Marilou Barrios (Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research)
  • Dr Fauzi Muh (Universitas Diponegoro)
  • Dr Luke Hespanhol (Lead Investigator, University of Sydney)
  • Associate Professor Dallas Rogers (University of Sydney)
  • Dr Ninik Suhartini, Dr Nur Diana Safitri and Ms Amelia Alnashar Hasna (Institut Teknologi Bandung)
  • Ms Salsabila Nur Hanifa and Ms Zahra Khoirunnisa (Yayasan Media Inovasi Keruangan Indonesia) 
  • Dr Yvonne Low (Lead Investigator, University of Sydney)
  • Ms Huong Ngô (University of California Santa Barbara)
  • Ms Dian Astrid Widjaja (RUAS - Ruang Arsip dan Sejarah Perempuan – Space for Indonesian Women Archives and Herstory - Indonesia)

Congratulations to this year’s recipients from the School of Architecture, Design and Planning, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Sydney Business School, Faculty of Medicine and Health and Faculty of Science, and their international partners.
