AFNR2001: Farm Placement

2026 unit information

This placement will give students experience working in a farming or local rural enterprise and the surrounding environment. Students can choose to attend any form of farming enterprise e.g., dairy, poultry/egg, beef, wool/sheep meat, agriculture (cropping), horticulture (fruit/vegetable), aquaculture, horse studs, insects etc. The selected farm must be commercially viable, that is, the major income must be generated from the farm enterprise (i.e., not a hobby farm, farm stay, hotel/venue, etc.). During the placement, it is important for students to understand the farm's operations, including the interaction between the production system and its surrounding environment, the influence of external constraints, and the importance of sustainability practices. There are a number of sites listed on the placement database (SONIA), however, students are welcome to find and apply to add new farm sites.
