The health workforce must be able to adapt to the introduction of new systems and tools that support shared decision making, interprofessional care in teams, and new modes of care delivery. Digital health technologies used in public health, healthcare, and the community can support and improve health outcomes, but their introduction can also introduce unintended consequences, including harms. Students completing this unit will be equipped with skills in the critical appraisal of new digital health technologies and an understanding of the importance of data security and ethical governance to enable safe and effective use of these technologies in healthcare. By the end of the unit students will know how to support the development, implementation, and evaluation of these technologies in the health system now and in to the future.
