In this unit, students develop foundational data analytical skills that are essential across all areas of business. They learn to think probabilistically, explore data using graphical and numerical techniques, and apply statistical modelling to describe and predict real-world business phenomena. The unit introduces the core concepts of uncertainty, variability, and inference, helping students understand how data can inform effective decision-making. Through hands-on analysis of authentic business datasets, students practise identifying patterns, testing relationships, and communicating insights in clear, evidence-based terms. By the end of the unit, students are able to use the language and methods of statistics to describe, analyse, and draw meaningful conclusions from business data, supporting informed, confident, and evidence-based decision-making in a wide range of business contexts.
