BUSS4918: Marketing and Digital Technology

2024 unit information

Students learn how to effectively market innovative, technology-driven offerings, often a key challenge for medium and large organizations wishing to improve growth and market leadership. At the centre of the course experience are a marketing project and presentations featuring executives from leading technology companies from California's Silicon Valley. In the unit, students learn: 1) marketing strategies tailored to the technology area, 2) advanced marketing frameworks, tools and techniques related to these strategies, 3) the pivotal role of marketing in growth organizations. The unit culminates with students presenting their project findings to an executive panel.

Assumed knowledge requirements are not extensive, given that the unit intends to draw students from various disciplinary backgrounds. Nevertheless, students should have a working knowledge of business and marketing fundamentals (e.g., equivalent to MKTG1001) and some experience working with data (e.g., introductory statistics or quantitative analysis)

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. Explain the importance to company growth of leveraging technology in product and service offerings, and the unique challenges of successfully marketing these offerings
  • LO2. Analyse a marketing problem for a technology product or service, and offer cogent solutions to the problem
  • LO3. Develop and execute a marketing strategy in the technology offering context
  • LO4. Effectively communicate strategic marketing analyses and actionable recommendations for a technology marketing problem
