The unit is a continuation of CHNS3611. It aims to further improve students' Chinese communication skills for specific purposes. The unit provides training in advanced knowledge of Chinese terms, etiquette and ethics in different professions, such as medicine, law, engineering and business. It will focus on a wide range of genres, including case studies in different social and professional contexts. It will enhance students' presentation, communication, analytical and critical thinking skills.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. demonstrate a mastery of Chinese terms and language usage relating to different professions in particular and Chinese society in general
  • LO2. read and write Chinese-language reports and essays related to specific purposes
  • LO3. demonstrate mastery of basic knowledge of Chinese terms, etiquette and ethics in different professions
  • LO4. give oral presentations related to the students’ own major specialization
  • LO5. use Chinese confidently for specific purposes
  • LO6. conduct case studies and case analysis.
