CPNO2604: Collaborative Piano 4

2026 unit information

In Collaborative Piano 4, students will build on their studies in CPNO2603, continuing to explore various Collaborative Piano genres and honing their Collaborative Piano skills. The Course will continue with a concentrated study of Vocal repertoire (Art Song and/or Opera) and Instrumental Duo repertoire, exploring different styles to those already studied in CPNO2603, and will feature workshops by visiting industry professionals from a variety of Collaborative Piano specialities. Students will also play weekly for a Vocal Studio lesson.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. demonstrate an understanding of a variety of styles and genres in the Collaborative Piano repertoire through intensive study of a large range of works.
  • LO2. improve and develop a nuanced approach to pianistic technique, appropriate to the Collaborative Piano literature.
  • LO3. demonstrate a heightened awareness of the collaborative skills required to play with instrumentalists and singers.
  • LO4. perform as a Collaborative Pianist in a weekly vocal lesson, under the guidance of staff members from the Vocal Unit.
  • LO5. improve and develop performance skills through the performance of a wide range of repertoire in various concert settings.
  • LO6. identify some key professional roles for Collaborative Pianists and their appropriate skillsets.
