This unit builds on previous knowledge and understanding of criminological theories and methods and issues in criminal justice and crime policy to enable students to conduct an original piece of criminological research, and/or design and appraise crime policy in Australia or elsewhere.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. demonstrate and apply knowledge and understanding of criminological theories and methods, and issues in criminal justice and crime policy debates.
  • LO2. demonstrate advanced understanding and application of criminological research methods, including their ethical implications.
  • LO3. demonstrate the ability to provide original insights into substantive areas in criminology, criminal justice and crime policy in Australia or elsewhere.
  • LO4. demonstrate capacity to communicate findings of original criminological research, and/or design and evaluation of crime policy to academic peers and lay audiences using oral, written and digital formats via assessment tasks and seminar discussions.
