DENT5401: Clinical Periodontics 1A

2024 unit information

Clinical non-surgical management of patients with mainly mild and moderate (Stage I/II ; Grade A/B) forms of periodontitis and milder forms of peri-implant diseases. Other types of periodontal diseases will be approached as required. The clinical focus of these units of study is on all non-surgical clinical aspects of periodontology and implantology of concern to the provision of safe and effective prevention, non-surgical treatment and maintenance of Stage I/II Grade A/B periodontitis and milder forms of peri-implant diseases. Students may be required to attend classes at multiple locations.

Comprehensive knowledge as well as sound clinical skills and experience in all aspects of General Dentistry, particularly in Restorative Dentistry and Oral Rehabilitation

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. demonstrate all aspects of non-surgical periodontal therapy in stage 1/2 grade A/B periodontitis and milder forms of peri-implant diseases
  • LO2. evaluate and demonstrate the assessment; diagnosis and treatment planning process
  • LO3. demonstrate basic surgical skills
  • LO4. document each phase of treatment fully, in order to subsequently present these cases for evaluation.
