DENT6394: Advanced Clinical Prosthodontics 2A

2024 unit information

This unit provides continued advanced clinical training at the postgraduate level in prosthodontics. Students undertake advanced multidisciplinary clinical care of patients under supervision. Further development of skills in diagnosis, treatment planning; prognosis and delivery of advanced oral rehabilitative care including surgical and restorative implant dentistry and reorganized occlusal prosthodontic rehabilitation. Students may be required to attend classes at multiple locations.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. demonstrate in depth knowledge, understanding and competence patient assessment, treatment planning, management and maintenance of cases requiring fixed implant and tooth supported conformative rehabilitation, as well as patients requiring aesthetic and occlusal reorganisation.
  • LO2. demonstrate understanding and competence in diagnosis, planning, management and maintenance in removable prosthodontics including tooth and implant supported overdentures, overlay dentures and the use of precision attachments.
  • LO3. demonstrate understanding and competence in the diagnosis and management of straightforward and advanced endodontics
  • LO4. demonstrate knowledge and understanding in the management of the prosthodontic/periodontic as well as orthodontic/prosthodontic interdisciplinary diagnosis, treatment planning and management.
  • LO5. evaluate the alternative procedures available for the provision of a prosthodontic service, based on appropriate technology for communities with different socio-economic resources as well as the patient with special needs
  • LO6. demonstrate understanding and competence in the surgical and restorative techniques required for implant placement
  • LO7. demonstrate understanding and competence in the diagnosis, treatment planning, management and maintenance of the gerodontic patient.
