2025 unit information

DENT6434 Clinical Endodontics III expands on knowledge obtainedfrom DENT6418, DENT6389. Topics covered will include, but will not belimited to, procedural mishaps, pulpal irritants, restoration of theendodontically treated tooth, endodontic sealers, antibiotics, nonodontogenic pain, resorption and trauma. These topics will be coveredin lectures and tutorials where students will appraise the literature andsummarise key learning topics in the form of oral presentations andscientific discussion.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. Have a comprehensive knowledge of procedural mishaps, pulpal irritants, restoration of the endodontically treated tooth, endodontic sealers, antibiotics, non-odontogenic pain, resorption and trauma and translate that into clinical practice with patient-focused evidence-based care
  • LO2. Possess advanced research skills including competency in experimental materials and methodologies relating to endodontics.
  • LO3. Integrate professional behaviour in the workplace and amongst colleagues. Patients should be treated with respect and provided with safe and appropriate care. Research should be conducted following ethical and appropriate research principles.
  • LO4. Critically examine background literature to interpret and evaluate the methodology used and results obtained in a research context.
  • LO5. Independently search and appraise the literature to determine the state of knowledge in the profession.
  • LO6. Communicate scientific information including the background concepts, methods, results and significance clearly and concisely in written and spoken English.
  • LO7. Work effectively in teams, in the clinic, in seminars and in research.
  • LO8. Work effectively as an individual to manage patient care, research and general learning.
  • LO9. Perform professional delivery of education and supervision to dental students studying endodontics.
