DRUM1601: Drum Set 1

The subject will offer students a firm technical and theoretical grounding, a range of problem-solving skills, and a variety of developmental processes, thus equipping students with a broad skill set to face challenges associated within an ever changing and evolving music industry landscape. In addition, students will be provided with a broad historical perspective, as well as a large pool of creative co-ordination processes associated with a range of stylistic areas to equip individuals with a thorough grounding in time-keeping, motion-based problem solving, stylistic knowledge and ability, and procedural problem-solving and critical thinking.

Students enrolling must have fundamentals of drum set performance and some performance experience in place

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. perform a range of fundamental drum set techniques, creative co-ordination processes, and sound production techniques
  • LO2. perform and manipulate a range of introductory rhythmic practices, stylistic areas, sticking vocabularies, and improvisational frameworks
  • LO3. work with, and create, developmental processes that allow for the creation and manipulation of personal rhythmic vocabulary
  • LO4. communicate effectively in ways that allow for multi-disciplinary collaborative action.
