This unit equips students with modern empirical and computational tools for macroeconomic analysis, placing emphasis on both empirical and quantitative approaches. The empirical component covers econometric methods with time series data, structural estimation, and identification of shocks. The quantitative component covers building, solving, and simulating dynamic macroeconomic models. This includes models of economic growth, business cycles, and monetary and fiscal policies. Throughout the unit students will build, calibrate, estimate, and simulate models using programming languages such as Matlab, Stata, and R.
