ECOS2006: Economic Principles for Business

2027 unit information

This unit introduces the core principles of microeconomics and macroeconomics and their application to business decision-making. Students examine how supply and demand determine prices and resource allocation; how firms make production and pricing decisions under different market structures; and, how market failures arise. The unit also explores business cycles and key macroeconomic indicators such as GDP, inflation and unemployment, and examines the roles of fiscal and monetary policy and central banks in shaping economic activity. Students apply economic reasoning to analyse real-world business and policy issues.
