This unit of study builds on knowledge acquired in previous studies in order to apply economic principles to real-world problems. Lectures cover the nature of economic research, theoretical concepts, and methods of applied economic analysis. Students will develop skills to interpret and communicate economic analysis to an interdisciplinary audience.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. Apply economic principles and data literacy skills to analyse food policy questions using real-world data.
  • LO2. Analyse and critically interpret published academic and policy research on food systems and food policy.
  • LO3. Evaluate empirical strategies, data sources, and identification assumptions used in food policy research, including through replication and robustness analysis.
  • LO4. Apply quantitative and computational techniques to replicate, validate, and extend published food policy analyses using updated data or alternative specifications.
  • LO5. Summarise and communicate empirical findings, limitations, and policy implications clearly and effectively to interdisciplinary and policy-relevant audiences.
