EDMT5662: Languages Curriculum 2 (Additional)

2024 unit information

This unit is designed for pre-service language teachers continuing with their curriculum method study in an additional target language. The unit will continue to build pre-service teachers awareness, skills and understandings in languages assessment, differentiation of the curriculum and the use of ICT tools. Students will gain broad understandings about the nature and scope of languages education in the NSW context, about traditional and more contemporary and innovative classroom practices and particular aspects of policy and NESA documentation

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. demonstrate an ability to summarise and synthesise wider views about languages learning in the current NSW context, particularly as regards - assessing languages learning in years 7-10, differentiating the curriculum, and motivating learners in years 7-10, catering to their different learning approaches and interests
  • LO2. demonstrate an ability to design an assessment task to assess student language learning outcomes in the second additional language
  • LO3. demonstrate strategies employed to maintain skills and proficiencies in the target language, commenting on how this impacts on future classes, particularly in the areas of differentiating the curriculum for all learners, assessment, and learner motivation.
