EDPB5014: Intercultural Education

In this unit students explore a range of themes that relate to concepts of culture, cultural diversity and inter-cultural communications. These include education and culture in the context of globalisation and homogenisation / heterogenisation debates. Students work with case studies of cultural diversity and inter-cultural education in the domains of policy, management, curriculum teaching and learning, and develop a special study of cultural diversity and intercultural education in a selected international education context.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. develop an established working definition of culture
  • LO2. develop an understanding of the contradictory homogenizing and heterogeneity forces acting on culture globally
  • LO3. understand the common culture thesis
  • LO4. apply skills and insights of cultural diversity in education as developed in a special investigation
  • LO5. developed independent study skills and high level writing skills
  • LO6. develop an experience of having applied these skills to advanced academic research, bibliographic searches and writing tasks.
