Topics covered include discourse and society, discourse and pragmatics, discourse and genre, discourse and conversation, multimodal discourse analysis, discourse and digital media, and critical discourse analysis.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

At the completion of this unit you will: • demonstrate an understanding of the literature on discourse analysis • demonstrate an ability to analyze spoken and written discourse • demonstrate an ability to draw on this analysis for the understanding and interpretation of spoken and written discourse • demonstrate an understanding of the ways in which spoken and written discourse can be focused on in the language learning classroom.
