This course provides the opportunity for students to critically analyse current theory and practice in teacher professional learning in Aboriginal contexts and develop collaborative leadership skills for supporting and mentoring colleagues in all aspects of Aboriginal education.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. Critically analyse key research in teacher professional learning in Aboriginal contexts to engage in professional dialogue with colleagues in order to plan and achieve personal and collective personal and professional development goals
  • LO2. Critically analyse and reflect upon the theoretical and practical underpinnings of the course in developing activist teacher personal and professional identities to effect sustainable change in the workplace.
  • LO3. Support colleagues in developing leadership skills in engaging Aboriginal families and communities to devise culturally appropriate professional learning opportunities for school staff and developing communities of practice
  • LO4. Prioritise local Aboriginal ways of knowing, doing and being in developing culturally responsive teacher professional learning.
  • LO5. Support and lead colleagues in ethical and authentic professional learning to develop skills in identifying and meeting the learning needs of Aboriginal students, and implementing culturally responsive curriculum and pedagogical approaches.
  • LO6. Support and lead colleagues in developing personal and professional reflexivity in order to implement authentic and ethical professional learning to implement culturally responsive whole school change
