EDUF4021: Education Honours Dissertation

2024 unit information

In this unit, under the supervision of an academic member of staff, and possibly as part of a research team, students undertake a research project developed as part of EDUF4020. In undertaking the research project, students are required to demonstrate a breadth and depth of knowledge of the discipline studied, autonomy and imagination in applying that knowledge, proficiency and skill in the research methods used, and a critical and insightful analysis of the results. They will also be required to demonstrate an understanding of relevant ethical issues. Under the direction of their supervisor, students will develop a research report for examination and dissemination to the wider research field.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. plan and conduct an independent research project
  • LO2. demonstrate understanding of the current state of knowledge in the specific field of your honours research project and basic working knowledge of the broader field of educational research
  • LO3. select, justify and apply an appropriate interpretative framework and/or research methodology with an understanding of research ethics
  • LO4. offer evidence, understandings, interpretations and/or implications for the field
  • LO5. communicate findings of research to a variety of audiences and in a variety of formats
  • LO6. conduct and report research that complies with DoE and university guidelines on the ethical conduct of research.
