EDUF4301: Frontlines in Education

2026 unit information

This unit of study investigates burning issues, research and methodological breakthroughs and horizons in education. The unit invites students to critically engage with research studies that have proven to be enduring or impactful in sub-fields of history, philosophy, sociology and psychology of education. Through this unit of study, students will gain an understanding of why past research has been constituted as groundbreaking. The unit will also explore how particular researchers and their studies impact and shape the research that follows them.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. Articulate the nature of research across sub-disciplines of educational psychology, sociology, philosophy and history
  • LO2. Articulate how research ideas, theories, methodologies or questions can endure across time and place
  • LO3. Demonstrate an understanding of how research disciplines are shaped by context
  • LO4. Demonstrate an understanding of impactful and enduring research that has been conducted in their own field of study
  • LO5. Critically analyse educational research reports and publications
