EDUF4302: Research Skills in Education

2026 unit information

This unit of study focuses on designing and constructing a thesis, providing Honours students with a comprehensive foundation for conducting their own educational research project. Running concurrently with their thesis work, this unit will introduce students to the Honours Program and its requirements, as well as qualitative and quantitative methods, ethical considerations of research, and questions of epistemology, methodology and research reporting.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. Demonstrate an understanding that there are many different kinds of educational research
  • LO2. Demonstrate an understanding that different methods of data collection are used in educational research
  • LO3. Identify alternative qualitative and quantitative methods utilised in educational research
  • LO4. Articulate the nexus between scholarly literature and methodological choices in their chosen area of honours research
  • LO5. Understand the requirements for completing an honours thesis and devise the steps required for their own study
