EDUF4304: Education Studies Honours Thesis 2

2026 unit information

Under the supervision of an academic member of staff and possibly as part of a research team, students undertake a research project and construct an honours thesis. In undertaking and reporting on the research project, students are required to demonstrate a breadth and depth of knowledge of the discipline studied, autonomy and imagination in applying that knowledge, proficiency and skill in the research methods used, and a critical and insightful analysis of the results. They will also be required to demonstrate an understanding of relevant ethical issues. With support from their supervisor, students will develop a thesis for examination and dissemination to the wider research field.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. Demonstrate initiative and originality in research in education
  • LO2. Present a logical and persuasive argument, opening up new directions for future research on the issues addressed
  • LO3. Apply appropriate theories and methodologies used in education, to their research project
  • LO4. Carefully analyse and show detailed understanding of the body of evidence under study
  • LO5. Demonstrate detailed understanding of and, where appropriate, critically evaluate relevant scholarship
  • LO6. Use careful citations and provide an appropriately extensive list of references acknowledging existing research and listing primary materials used
  • LO7. Communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely, in appropriate academic style
