EDUP3040: Professional Knowledge and Practice 2

2024 unit information

This unit of study incorporates third year pre-service teachers' professional experience in schools and their development as reflective practitioners building on Professional Knowledge and Practice 1. The unit is divided into two sections: 1) Coursework: development as a Teacher with specific knowledge and understanding in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander curriculum content and Aboriginal Histories and Cultures; and 2) Successful completion of Professional Experience (25 days) and demonstration of successful teaching of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander curriculum content and Aboriginal Histories and Cultures.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. Demonstrate a developing knowledge of the diverse needs of students, and specifically for Aboriginal students
  • LO2. Demonstrate a developing knowledge of diverse student needs for learning, and specifically for Aboriginal students
  • LO3. Use a range of assessment strategies to identify and articulate student-appropriate learning goals in lesson preparation and delivery, including Aboriginal students and Aboriginal Histories and Cultures
  • LO4. Demonstrate increasing content knowledge of the primary curriculum by planning and implementing lessons (and sequences of lessons) that allow differentiated learning for all students in a classroom context to be able to access learning outcomes, and specifically for Aboriginal students
  • LO5. Critically reflect on emerging beliefs about how to teach, particularly in regards to interpretations of student ‘abilities’ in a classroom environment using learning goals to frame oral and written feedback
  • LO6. Reflect on the appropriate use of digital technologies and develop knowledge of the ways teachers keep accurate and reliable records of students’ progress and begin to implement a personal approach
