EUST4111: European Studies Honours Thesis 1

2024 unit information

In this unit you begin a substantial, independent research project in European Studies. Regular meetings with a supervisor approved by the Program of European Studies Honours Coordinator will guide your progress. You will develop a plan for researching and writing the thesis, submit an ethics application if appropriate, familiarize yourself with disciplinary conventions and standards, engage with relevant literature, theories and methodologies, and submit drafts at agreed times.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. Accurately and succinctly and comprehensively summarize major issues of importance to their chosen topic for dissertation research in the area of contemporary Europe and the European Union.
  • LO2. Critically analyse and interpret primary and secondary sources in their chosen dissertation topic in the area of contemporary Europe and the European Unionfield of European Studies in clear, accurate and succinct language.
  • LO3. Construct arguments and hypotheses with originality and inventiveness in response to research questions in the field of European Studies.
  • LO4. Analyse aspects of Europe and the European Union at advanced theoretical levels using applicable disciplinary methodologies.
  • LO5. Make informed and innovative contributions to collaborative undertakings and provide constructive critical commentary on the outcomes of group discussions, projects and/or assignments.
  • LO6. Identify pressing questions in relation to Europe and the European Union in order to complete individual research tasks.
  • LO7. Prepare succinct, clearly formulated, articulate, informed and innovative reports and presentations for group discussion
