2020 unit information

Changes to the global order represent new challenges to Europe and the EU. Europe in the Global Age explores current views of the state of Europe as a supra-national bloc in the global environment. Emphasis is placed on the development of theoretical and analytical frameworks and perspectives in a learning environment of individual research projects and group discussions.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. identify the major socio-political and cultural issues relating to contemporary Europe and the European Union
  • LO2. discuss the 'idea of Europe' as a unified geo-political identity in a global context
  • LO3. identify and discuss Europe’s place in a global context and in the environment of transnational civil society
  • LO4. identify, analyse and interpret aspects of European societies and cultures with reference to their history and to the present in a major research project
  • LO5. carry out research, critical analysis, and discussion of relevant topics in the field using appropriately specialised language, with a view to clarity and accuracy
  • LO6. exhibit an ability to successfully undertake project work, including group work, co-ordination and presentation.
