This unit examines how common diseases, injuries and impairments affect normal physiological function and influence responses and adaptations to exercise. Students explore pathophysiology across major body systems and the effects of common classes of medications and other treatments on physiological responses to restore or alter normal function. The unit develops students’ ability to integrate anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology to assess clinical status, interpret common clinical presentations, and use evidence to explain how exercise influences health and function. Learning is supported by applied tutorials and practical sessions with input from exercise physiologists and people with lived experience.
