This unit extends key concepts in corporate financing, investment, and risk management. It introduces the core theories and practical applications of corporate finance, with a focus on how firms make investment decisions, choose financing structures, and determine payout policies. The unit also examines financial securities and securities markets, with an emphasis on their pricing, investment characteristics, and their role in supporting corporate decision-making and risk management. The securities covered include equities, bonds and other fixed income instruments, as well as derivative securities such as futures and options. Students will be asked to use digital tools to capture and analyse financial data relevant to the finance industry and services. The goal of the unit is to develop a coherent understanding of corporate finance principles and analytical tools, providing a foundation for further study in advanced finance units that specialise in corporate finance, investments, and risk management.
