FMBA5009: Business Sustainability Project

2024 unit information

This unit aims to delve deeper into the knowledge gained in the four business knowledge and skill development units - strategy, finance, data, marketing - to complete a unified integrated report. There will be an overarching theme of building business resilience and sustainability. This provides students with an opportunity to combine assessments in the business knowledge units and concurrently examine the sustainability of an existing organisation.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. address sustainability issues (environmental, social and governance) in an organisational setting and apply a strategic, financial, data and marketing perspective to design and implement a planning strategy for the delivery of sustainable outcomes
  • LO2. critically evaluate the effectiveness of current business strategies and identify sustainability challenges in short, medium and long term
  • LO3. assess how stakeholders (including government agencies, business and industry, NGOs, scientific and technological communities) are engaging with sustainable development issues and acknowledge the implications of managerial decisions on society
  • LO4. assess how business and operating models may need to adapt to reflect climate change and related environmental issues
  • LO5. conduct an industry and market analysis to assess market opportunities with respect to environmental, social and governance issues incorporating customers, competitors, collaborators and other external forces.
