2024 unit information

Diversity has become one of the most important issues in contemporary society. Increasingly communities and workplaces encourage us to support diversity. This unit introduces students to a range of diversity issues informed by race, ethnicity, gender, class, sexuality and dis/ability and the importance of cultivating understanding and respect for difference. It will appeal to students interested in social, economic and cultural marginalisation.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. understand constructions and lived experiences of difference as well as economic, social and cultural marginalisation
  • LO2. understand the different contexts in which the term diversity is employed through close readings of academic texts and real world examples
  • LO3. critically examine and reflect on academic and real world examples of the way diversity is employed
  • LO4. work independently and collaboratively with respect for classroom difference
  • LO5. understand the principles of intellectual generosity and ethical communication and be open to critical reflection on their own opinions and beliefs.
