This unit of study will examine current national or international public policy processes, issues, or sectors. It will deal with contemporary themes and issues in terms of ground level policies, as well as wider conceptual frameworks to help explain them.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. Demonstrate an understanding of the key factors that influence policy stasis and change by carrying out in-depth inquiry into policy issues
  • LO2. Evaluate the capacities, strengths, and limits of theoretical models to explain and understand specific policy
  • LO3. Understand micro-foundations of decision making in individuals and how those translate to organisations and social/political systems
  • LO4. Identify formal and informal systems that facilitate or frustrate policy stasis and change
  • LO5. Develop a theoretically informed, evidence-based analysis of a policy area and communicate your findings effectively
