GOVT6311: Issues in Public Policy

2024 unit information

This unit uses public policy theories to study: Inequality and Housing, Poverty and Welfare, Domestic Violence, Health, Immigration, anti-Racism, Policing, and Australian Policy Toward China. It focuses on policy-making in the US, Australia and Europe. It specifically examines the differences between neo-liberal, liberal, conservative and social democratic policy-making.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. demonstrate an understanding of the key tools that influence policy change by carrying out an in-depth inquiry into one policy issue
  • LO2. locate and critically analyse relevant literature
  • LO3. apply concepts to critical cases
  • LO4. carry out independent investigations analysing the role of these factors in influencing policy change
  • LO5. work collaboratively to develop specific forms of knowledge and to negotiate this knowledge
  • LO6. communicate what has been learned orally and in writing.
