GRMN2643: Teaching and Learning Methods in German

2021 unit information

This unit surveys influential theories and approaches of language teaching and learning as well as methodologies and didactics of German as a foreign language. The theoretical foundation will be applied to the teaching of language and culture to help students develop a repertoire of teaching techniques and strategies. The assessment tasks are designed to give students the opportunity to apply new knowledge in teaching and learning methods through discussion, presentation and independent research.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. demonstrate a basic knowledge of teaching and learning methods
  • LO2. understand common concepts and terminologies within the field of German as a Foreign Language/Applied Linguistics, and how these areas of research influence language learning and vice versa
  • LO3. acquire experience with different ways of thinking about teaching and learning German as a foreign language, and you will gain an understanding of the impact of different factors (Faktorenkomplexion) on the foreign language learning process
  • LO4. develop your own teaching philosophy and implement the knowledge gained in your individual teaching and learning process.
