At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. exhibit an exceptional standard of active and passive competence in German and an ability to communicate effectively and persuasively in a range of registers in both written and spoken German
  • LO2. demonstrate in-depth knowledge of German societies, and an ability to discuss issues pertaining to culture, society, education, history, and politics creatively and effectively, to formulate sound arguments and to defend them
  • LO3. demonstrate high levels of cultural competence and the ability to critically reflect on their own society and heritage
  • LO4. demonstrate critical thinking, information and digital literacy, and the capacity to from ethical judgments
  • LO5. exhibit the skills and confidence to work openly and productively, with integrity and confidence in diverse groups and across linguistic and cultural boundaries
  • LO6. effectively apply approaches and knowledge from Germanic Studies to issues encountered in an interdisciplinary context
  • LO7. demonstrate a high degree of familiarity with methodologies appropriate to the study of the German-speaking world at advanced undergraduate level
  • LO8. demonstrate the capacity for advanced research in the relevant field of Germanic studies.
