2022 unit information

In this unit students will apply advanced linguistic skills to complex biblical and extra-biblical texts. Students will analyse the poetic and linguistic features of biblical poetry outside the Psalms, as well as the linguistic features of Medieval Hebrew used by Jewish Biblical commentators, especially those features that differentiate Medieval from Biblical Hebrew.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. Critically analyse the stylistic and linguistic techniques of biblical Hebrew texts.
  • LO2. Apply an increased facility with texts in complex forms of biblical Hebrew.
  • LO3. Analyse the distinctive linguistic features of Medieval Hebrew.
  • LO4. Conduct guided independent research into key questions relating to the nature of Medieval literature including Biblical commentary.
