HSBH5005: Research Project Elective

2021 unit information

Students will undertake a supervised research project in an area relevant to their discipline. This unit is designed to assist students with the development of a research question, a systematic literature review and research proposal, and any ethics applications that may be applicable to their individual research topics. Students will develop an understanding of the strengths of different research methods and be able to provide a rationale for the methodology selected for their research question. Students will effectively communicate the aims, methods and implications of their proposed research.

At the completion of this unit, you should be able to:

  • LO1. construct a research question for your project
  • LO2. design and defend a research strategy to address your research question
  • LO3. plan and implement a search strategy to locate literature relevant to your research
  • LO4. compose a critical review of the literature (or background to your research)
  • LO5. use Endnote software to manage references
  • LO6. write a research proposal
  • LO7. articulate the ethical issues that impact on your honours project
  • LO8. write an ethics application
  • LO9. develop skills in the research process
  • LO10. articulate and present your research ideas in a professional manner
  • LO11. have gained feedback about your work in a supportive environment
  • LO12. demonstrate problem solving strategies in relation to your own and other students’ projects.
